Volunteer

Volunteer at Life Time Tri Minneapolis!

We couldn't put on a world-class event without the help of our volunteers! Whether you are a return volunteer, new to the sport or a seasoned triathlete wanting a behind the scenes experience, there are numerous opportunities to volunteer for the weekend. Volunteering is also a great way to get involved and connect with others in the community.

PRE-RACE ASSIGNMENTS – Friday, July 12, 2013 
 
Expo Area at Lake Nokomis
Information Booth
Event Crew will provide information to participants and spectators. We will supply all the answers to the questions.

Packet Pickup and T-shirt Distribution

Event Crew will ensure the smooth operation of packet pickup. You will check each participant's ID, hand out goodie bags, swim caps, race packets and place wrist bands on participants. If you're not helping with packet pickup, we will need you to help hand out T-shirts to the participants.

Start Area & Course at Lake Nokomis
Equipment Tent

Event Crew will keep track of supplies going out and coming in to the equipment tent.
 
Race Set-up
Event Crew helps with setting up the transition area, swim start/finish, finish line, etc. Event Crew should be able to lift 15 pounds and climb in and out of a truck if needed. Duties include setting up fencing, barricades and bike racks.  

Swim Course
Event Crew will be getting in the water on Friday to set up the swim course and on Saturday to tear down the course. You do not need to be a certified lifeguard, but you do need to be comfortable in the water.  

RACE DAY ASSIGNMENTS – Saturday, July 13, 2013

Swim
Lifeguards
  
Current, certificated lifeguards are needed to help in the water for approximately 1.5 hours of the race. Your job is to ensure that all participants complete the swim course safely or are escorted safely to the beach, and to provide appropriate care as needed until the medical team arrives. You will need to have your own lifeguard swim suit. Email a copy of your certification to ltfswimcourse@gmail.com, Subject: Lifeguard Certification.    
 
Swim Course
Event Crew will be getting in the water on Friday to set up the swim course and on Saturday to tear down the course. You do not need to be a certified lifeguard, but you do need to be comfortable in the water.  

Swim Start/Finish
Event Crew need not enter the water. Your main job will be to get the participants lined up in the right waive and ready to go on time. After the last participant gets out of the water, you will help tear down the swim area, leaving the beach cleaner than we found it.

Bike
Bike Course
Event Crew will be stationed along the course as necessary to monitor intersections along the bike route and warn riders of upcoming danger areas such as pot holes and ensure participants are staying on the race course while cheering them on. Police will be at all major intersections.
 
Fueling Stations
Event Crew main job is to set up and tear down fueling stations, hand out water to participants as they bike past and clean up all the water cups around your station when you're done. Be sure to cheer on the participants.

SAG Wagon
Event Crew will be placed at various locations along the bike course to assist with the return of any bikes from fallen bikers. Event Crew needs to have a valid driver's license.

Run
Fueling Stations
Event Crew main job is to set up and tear down fueling stations, hand out water to participants as they run past and clean up all the water cups around your station when you're done. Be sure to cheer on the participants.

Run Course
Event Crew will point runners in the right direction and ensure participants are staying on the race course while cheering them on. Event Crew will be stationed along the course as necessary. Police will be at all major intersections.

Race Support
Body Marking

Event Crew will be writing race numbers clearly on the participant's arms and legs following standard race rules. You will be done by 9 a.m. so, if you are able, we would love it if you could volunteer in another area.

Crowd Control
Event Crew will help provide a safe environment for the athletes, event crew and spectators in areas in and around the race site, including the transition area, swim start, swim finish, run course, bike course and finish line.

Drug Testing Chaperone
 
Event Crew has been given a code to sign up for this position.
 
Equipment Tent
Event Crew main job is to keep track of supplies going out and coming in to the equipment tent.

Event Crew Check-in
Event Crew will assist with checking in all team members, answering question they may have about the triathlon and their job for the day.

Green Team
Event Crew is challenged to create a truly "Green" Event. This is accomplished on race day by educating and encouraging all participants, staff and spectators on the proper means of disposal for all waste generated. Life Time Fitness is proud to have recycled 75% by volume of all discarded material last year and is striving for an even higher number this year. Anyone interested in recycling or "Green" initiatives will grow from this experience and gain lifelong knowledge on how to help keep our planet clean.

Event Crew has been given a code to sign up for this position.

Bike Course Set-up and Teardown  
Event Crew will need to be able to lift 25 pounds and climb in and out of a truck easily. Set-up involves getting everything set up on the course, dropping off supplies at water stops and setting up course directional signage. For teardown you will go around after the event is finished and pick up all course signage and leftover supplies from water stops.
 
Back-up Timing
Event Crew will partner with our timing company at various locations throughout the swim, bike and run courses. Your main job will be calling out or writing down the bib numbers as participants cross the timing mat. We'll try our best to find you a chair but for the most part you will be standing a lot. Approximate times:
Swim finish 6:30 a.m. – 11 a.m. 
Bike out 7 a.m. – noon 
Bike in 7:30 a.m. – noon 
Run out 8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. 
Floaters 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. 

Transition Area
Event Crew will assist in securing entrances and making sure that only participants enter the transition area. Event Crew must be well-versed in all triathlon procedures.
 
Teardown   
Event Crew will teardown all the equipment, load trucks and help clean up all trash. Must be able to lift at least 10 pounds and climb in and out of trucks easily.
 
VIP Tent
Event Crew will make sure all VIPs feel welcome, ensure that only credential people are in the VIP tent, assist with set-up and teardown, clean up after people and make sure everything stays stocked. It will be helpful if you can lift 15 pounds or more.

Race Village
Awards  
Event Crew will assist with setting up and tearing down the awards area and will hand out awards to the top finishers in all levels.  

Finish Line
Event Crew will place medals on finishers and/or retrieve timing chips from participants when they finish, along with congratulating the finishers. You will also help tear down the finish area and place timing chips back on chip boards.

Massage
 
Event Crew has a code to sign up for these positions. If you are massage trained, please list all training in comment box and we will contact you. Event Crew will be responsible for pre-race and post-race massages between 6:30 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Refreshments   
Event Crew will help set up and tear down the refreshments area. As participants go through the lines, make sure everything stays stocked.  

Receipt Results
Event Crew will partner with our timing company typing in participant's numbers and handing them their results. Make sure you tell them: Great job! Way to go! Congrats!
